The mens golf team opened their spring season Monday at the Texas-San Antonio Intercollegiate where they tied for eighth in team standings with a total of 890 points. The three-round tournament at Oak Hills Country Club hosted 17 schools including Division I teams within the top 40 rankings. “To be in the top half of the field against the best teams] was very encouraging,” Betty Kaufman, head coach, said. Junior Cory Blenkush tied for 12th place with a 54-hole total of 219, seven shots behind tournament winner, Noah Goldman of Mississippi State.
After two rounds of 74 Monday, Blenkush shot a par-round of 71 Tuesday. With highly-ranked opponents such as Mississippi State and the University of Oklahoma, Blenkush said at that ranking level there were big names that they were happy to compete with.
